With Thanksgiving coming up next week, I’ve been thinking a lot about the menu. It’s just my husband and I so we don’t need a lot of food, but on the other hand, the leftovers can be just as good as the meal itself! I’m a person who likes to plan in advance, and I also love to cook so the process is a lot of fun. Of course one must eat turkey on Thanksgiving, but whole turkey birds are a little large for just the two of us. This year I’m planning on doing a turkey breast recipe from Giada De Laurentiis from her cookbook Happy Cooking.
I’m also planning on making cornbread-apricot dressing with rosemary from Williams Sonoma
Along with sweet potato gratin with pecans, also from Williams Sonoma
And of course, the grand finale…dessert! Chocolate caramel crunch pie from Giada De Laurentiis
These are all brand new recipes for me which is a little risky, but it’s just my husband and I. Besides, if we ate the same thing every year, that would get a little boring. I LOVE structure and routine, for example, having turkey every Thanksgiving. But within that structure it’s fun to mix it up and try new things (recipes). Just because I love to cook doesn’t mean all my dishes turn out. Some do and some don’t…so fingers crossed!
Emotional Intelligence. What is it? I found this article on Camille Styles that talks about what emotional intelligence is and 3 ways to improve it.
Reading it on the computer screen makes it sound so easy, but in real life…
One moment at a time. I think EQ is like a muscle that can be strengthened. I’m glad to be made aware of exactly which areas I need to work on. Now where is that EQ gym? Oh yeah, it’s called Life!
These pumpkin recipes reposted from CamilleStyles.com look delicious! I think I would definitely be happy to make and eat all of these recipes…I’m not sure how realistic that is though. I wonder if my husband would complain about eating a different variation of pumpkin for a whole month? Maybe I’ll just start with one…the hummus dip. No the cheesecake. Hmm, how about the cinnamon rolls….although I haven’t made a good risotto in a while…

“Abundant sunshine”. That’s what weather.com said this morning. It’s now the middle of October and the temperature has cooled off. The sun rises later and sets earlier. There is no replacement for the crisp, musty smell in the air. Autumn’s glorious last burst of natural beauty before settling in for winter’s rest cannot be compared. I love the change of pace in our culture, squash, soups, and fall baking…and of course, the shift in attire. On a cold, rainy night there is nothing better than curling up with a book and your loved ones by the fire. As for today though, I’ll find a way to get outside and enjoy this abundant sunshine!
Champagne is served in a tall, elegant glass. The rising bubbles dance and sparkle in celebration, enticing me to join in the fun. The familiar POP of the cork let’s me know we are celebrating. WE are celebrating. The intimacy and joy of a shared bottle is one of the simple joys of life. It’s uncomplicated and each sip savored slowly, just like the moment…
